Real Time View
We've just added a new page to the Viral Video Chart.
The coolest thing it does is to open up the real-time video stream from which we compile the chart. As we scan the blogosphere, we're now publishing onto this page every new video we come across. In real time - or as close to real time as we can get.
This page also reveals the most blogged videos since midnight GMT, so you can see the videos most likely to make tommorrow's chart. (The daily chart is always compiled midnight to midnight).
If you want to get ahead of the curve, this is the place to do it.
Hi,
I really like the new addition! Very addictive.
A small suggestion though which would make the experience even better for me: an addition so that I could set the speed of the refresh. It's all a bit fast for me at the moment.
Perhaps 3 settings would do it, slow, medium and fast. Or something like that.
Anyways, great site.
PS: I think that the weekly chart idea isn't needed at all. There isn't much point having it seperately. Just integrate it into the 'More Charts' tab where the opening chart is the 'general weekly chart' (instead of the 'music' chart as it now is).

When the videos are coming in in real time, there's not a lot we can do to vary the speed. However, the first 50 are buffered, and we have scaled their speed up a bit, so things don't get too boring. Real speed varies between a new video every 2 seconds and one every 30 seconds, depending on how much blogging is going on.
I can see that the ability to speed up or slow down the flow would be good. Ironically, I just made some changes this morning that will speed things up, as I thought it was too slow.
Take your point about the weekly chart. Right now, it's got no more status than the niche weekly charts. But we intend it to have a higher status. We are syndicating this chart to some other sites and titles and we want to make it as easy as possible to find. We could make it the default on the 'Other Charts' page, but we intend this page eventually to be an overview or index of lots of different charts and bits of data. But I'll think about that. You might be right.

Good to hear that the developers listen to (and try to take into account) what the viewing public says!
Like the thing about the layout: I am still loving the minimalistic look. Perhaps have the option to "skin" the site with CSS for the people who are into colours.
If there are going to be many more bells and whistles on the weekly chart, keep it seperate, if not merge! I am sure you can still syndicate it even if it is the default in the 'Other Charts' tab (and then of course you can get rid of the extra 'Weekly Charts' tab).
My view is: the more minimalistic, the better. Yes, very Web 2.0. :)
*** Anyway, keep up the good work, you have me hooked. ***
